When people are financially invested, they want a return. When people are emotionally invested, they want to contribute.”

Asking a number of CEOs or men and women in leadership roles about what is the most important indicator of a company's health a variety of answers would be given.
For the accounting department or the bottom line driven CEO would come the answer of the profit and loss statement. For the sales department the answer would be the graph showing the level of sales for the quarter. Additionally, if the customers were to be surveyed they might indicate customer service, the value for the dollar spent or the quality of the merchandize purchased.
In addition, another important component of the team dynamic are the employees. If the same question were posed to the "team", there are several studies and reports that provide insight as to what their answer might be. That response is reflected in that an employee almost always wishes to receive a simple thanks or modest appreciation for the work that they have accomplished. Some studies actually reflect as high as 80% of employees value this expression by leadership even above pay raises or bonuses and reciprocate their appreciation back to leadership through hard work and devotion.
Gratitude in the workplace is the glue that binds the extended workplace family together and empowers each member to receive and give gratitude. It is not hollow praise, but given in sincerity of heart and mind that reflects the leadership's attitude towards the meaningful work that is accomplished by the team.
Therefore, it seems that a logical conclusion can be drawn about the health of a company and that it is extremely dependent upon the gratefulness of the staff and the appreciation shown to them and reflective in work performance.
Alfred North Whitehead is quoted as saying, "No one who achieves success does so without the help of others. The wise and confident acknowledge this help with gratitude."
